Classification and Characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern
The D614 was the first described SARS-CoV-2 strain early in the COVID-19 pandemic, in December 2019. However, a SARS-CoV-2 variant, G614, containing D614G mutation in spike protein has become the most prevalent (wild-type) form since mid-2020. To make matters worse, the G614 has continuously developed numerous mutations, emerging and circulating around the world.
