Western blot using IL6 polyclonal antibody (Cat # PAB16919) shows detection of a band ~24 KDa in size corresponding to recombinant human IL6 (arrowhead). Molecular weight markers are also shown. After transfer, the membrane was blocked overnight with 1% BSA in TTBS followed by reaction with primary antibody at a 1 : 500 dilution. Detection occurred using HRP conjugated anti-Rabbit IgG secondary antibody diluted 1 : 40,000 in blocking buffer and FemtoMax™ Chemiluminescent substrate. Image was captured using VersaDoc MP 4000 imaging system (Bio-Rad).
This gene encodes a cytokine that functions in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. The protein is primarily produced at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
