Recognizes a (Mr 39kD) glycoprotein which is a visual pigment in mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. The binding site epitope sequence is in the first 10 a.a. at N-terminus (G-T-E-G-P-N-F-Y-V). The Rhodopsin antigen is present on the photoreceptor cells in the retina. This antibody RET-P1 specifically labels rods with the axons and synaptic pedicles of the rods being labelled.
