Flow Cytometry

Surface staining of human peripheral blood cells with CD8 monoclonal antibody, clone MEM-31 (Cat # MAB3844) conjugated with FITC.

  • Specification

    Product Description

Mouse monoclonal antibody raised against native CD8.

    Immunogen

Native purified CD8 from human crude thymus membrane fraction.

    Host

    Mouse

    Theoretical MW (kDa)

    32-34

    Reactivity

    Human

    Specificity

This antibody recognizes a conformationally-dependent epitope of CD8, a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. CD8 is a disulfide-linked dimer and exists as a CD8a homodimer or CD8a/b heterodimer (each monomer approx. 32-34 KDa).This antibody does not react with formaldehyde-fixed cells; negative in Western Blot application.

    Gene Summary

The CD8 antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. The CD8 antigen acts as a corepressor with the T-cell receptor on the T lymphocyte to recognize antigens displayed by an antigen presenting cell (APC) in the context of class I MHC molecules. The coreceptor functions as either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains, or as a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. Both alpha and beta chains share significant homology to immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes the CD8 alpha chain isoforms. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq
