Western blot analysis of EGFR (arrow) using EGFR polyclonal antibody (Cat # PAB2078). 293 cell lysates (2 ug/lane) either nontransfected (Lane 1) or transiently transfected with the EGFR gene (Lane 2) (Origene Technologies).
Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded human breast carcinoma tissue reacted with EGFR polyclonal antibody (Cat # PAB2078) , which was peroxidase-conjugated to the secondary antibody, followed by DAB staining. This data demonstrates the use of this antibody for immunohistochemistry ; clinical relevance has not been evaluated.
The protein encoded by this gene is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the protein kinase superfamily. This protein is a receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family. EGFR is a cell surface protein that binds to epidermal growth factor. Binding of the protein to a ligand induces receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation and leads to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with lung cancer.
