Western blot using IL6 polyclonal antibody (Cat # PAB9953). Protein was resolved on a 4-20% Tris-Glycine gel by SDS-PAGE and transferred onto nitrocellulose. The blot shows detection of a band ~21 KDa in size corresponding to anti-IL6 antibody. After transfer, the membrane was blocked for 30 minutes with 1% BSA-TBST. Detection occurred using peroxidase conjugated anti-Rabbit IgG secondary antibody diluted 1 : 40,000 in blocking buffer for 30 min at RT followed by reaction with FemtoMax™ chemiluminescent substrate. Image was captured using VersaDoc™ MP 4000 imaging system (Bio-Rad).
This gene encodes a cytokine that functions in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. The protein is primarily produced at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
