Application

Immunofluorescence

The CCF-STTG1 cell line was fixed with 5% Acetic acid Methanol solution for 30 minutes followed by 5% Bovine serum PBS blocking , cells are permeabilized by 0.1% Triton X PBS for 15 mines before and stained with GFAP monoclonal antibody, clone SB61b (Cat # MAB3336) and then cells were fixed. (The cell washing buffer was 0.15% tween 20 in PBS.) Finally the slide was mounted with Fluormount-G contained DAPI.

    Gene Summary

This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
